Following on from the success of their Autumn Music Network tour in Ireland, Scoil Geimhridh are delighted to have these three incredible artists as part of this years programme.
For the past 20 years, Catriona McKay and Chris Stout have captivated audiences with their exhilarating and virtuosic live performances. Their unique sound, is a celebration of music from the Northern Isles, which infuses everything from Shetland reels to Swedish waltzes with a wonderfully atmospheric contact with the audience.
Regular visitors to Dingle over the years, Catriona and Chris are long-standing admirers of Dingle native, Séamus Begley, who was this years recipient of TG4’s Singer of the Year 2013. His singing, with the combination of Stout and McKay’s accompaniment is something truly magical, along with a lovely mix of tunes from both Kerry and the Shetland Islands.
The special guest for the evening is founder member of Irish American super-group Solas. Séamus Egan, originally from Mayo, moved to Philadelphia in his mid teens, and was recognized by Mick Moloney, as a truly gifted musician from a very young age. Mick was responsible for teaching him the banjo, which led him to winning the All-Ireland Fleadh. Thus followed the Séamus Egan that we know today. As well as performing with Solas, Séamus is a notable album producer, and has written music scores for films including, The Brothers McMullen.
“Sometimes the magic happens when you least expect it. Scottish fiddle and harp duo Chris Stout and Catriona McKay ventured to undertake an Irish tour with Seamus Begley, whom they’d long admired, and what emerged from the union has proven to be a revelation both in the studio and on the road.”
